GE makes a fantastic "26 Watt (100 Watt equivalent) Energy Smart Spiral T3 Light Bulb" that is a compact fluorescent light bulb which saves energy at the same time that it saves money on your electric bill, too! This light bulb works and you don't compromise on the amount of light you get.
It's so easy. Just install the bulb and turn on the light! Gradually (over 30 to 60 seconds maximum) the light from the bulb increases to the point where you get the same amount of light as you would from a standard 100 watt light bulb. The "green" comes in because this new type of electric light bulb does this using only 26 watts instead of 100 watts. You'll see your electric bill go down as you use more and more of these bulbs.
Stock up on these and use them just as you would regular light bulbs. The price should go down somewhat over time as the technology continues to become more and more available and supply increases. Companies know they can make money selling "green," energy saving products like these light bulbs.
In addition, the bulb burns for roughly 8,000 hours--try getting THAT out of a regular 60 watt light bulb! I haven't used all 8,000 hours yet, but a good friend of mine installed some of these when they were brand new technology--and that was years ago. They're still burning!
Overall, this is the bulb to use when you want an money saving, energy efficient bulb that still gives off the small light as any standard 100 watt light bulb.
Bought some bulbs to replace 13 watt CFs - Please make sure they fit your fixtures. I have some older fixtures were this bulb was a bit too large.
I had my doubts, but this bulb has lasted longer than any other fluorescent I have had.
I ordered three of these bulbs to save on energy and because they were touted as being long lasting. Two of the bulbs failed within the first month. I hope a different brand of these bulbs will be better because I won't order these again.
These energy efficient light bulbs give just as much light as an ordinary 100 watt bulb. Energy Smart Spiral bulbs take a few seconds to reach peak brightness, but after that I can tell no difference between the amount of light they give and the amount an ordinary 100 watt bulb gives.
